Board of Directors

The following board members have been elected:

Marcus Engler

I studied social and economic studies in Berlin and Paris. Since 2007 I have been working on my PhD dissertation dealing with transnational collaboration of trade unions within airbus corporate groups. The topic of migration has been highly important to me ever since I completed my Civilian Service at an information centre for refugees in Marseille.  I have been a member of the editorial staff for the newsletter “Migration & Population” since 2001, and together with Antje Scheidler, I have been responsible for the project since 2009.

Dr. Frauke Miera

I am a political scientist, a founding member of the network and have been engaged with questions of migration and integration since the mid-90’s. My PhD dissertation researched immigration from Poland to Germany. From 2006 to 2009 I was working at the Europe-University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) in a EU-research project regarding “A European Approach of Multicultural Citizenship. Legal, Political and Educational Challenges”. At the moment I am managing an exhibition project of the Berliner Bezirksmuseum Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. This project reflects my interest for the question of the representation of migration history in museums, which is a topic that I would also like to follow up on within the network.

Dr. Susanne Schwalgin

I have been a member of Netzwerk Migration in Europa since 2002. Having received my PhD in ethnology, I have been engaged with the topics of migration and integration since the mid-1990’s. Following my PhD dissertation on the effects of forced immigration and collective traumata on collective identity formations, I have been engaged with illegalised female migrants, who are employed by Germans to work in their private households. Since 2006, I have been working on the topic of school within the immigration society. In addition to that, I also conducted projects within the framework of the network (further education for teachers in Luxemburg, international conference in Berlin). Besides research lecturing I am also interested in the process of transferring research results into practical relations. This issue is also highly dominant in my current project, which deals with the networking of schools, migrant families and migrant institutions.

Dr. Anne von Oswald

I was first engaged with the topic of migration during my studies in Italy and through my research project on the Italian migrant labourers in Germany in the 1960’s and 70’s. Together with our colleague Andrea Schmelz, I developed projects on the topic of European migration, integration and human rights within historical-political education for the Network Migration in Europe. I am also the editor responsible for the Migration Expert Database of the Network Migration in Europe e. V.
