Dr. Daniel Faas

Born 1976, Dr. Daniel Faas is Lecturer in Sociology at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and Erasmus and Visiting Student Coordinator. Prior to his appointment at TCD, Dr. Faas held a Marie Curie Fellowship at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy in Athens and was principal researcher on the Multicultural Europe project (FP6). He occasionally acts as advisor to the European Commission DG Education and Culture in the context of the Education and Training 2010 programme and consultant to the Irish Department of Education and Science in relation to its Intercultural Education Strategy.

Daniel Faas received his PhD in Sociology of Education from the University of Cambridge, funded by the British Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). He also holds an MPhil in Educational Research from the University of Cambridge and an MA in English and Geography from the University of Stuttgart.

His main area of research is in the field of migration and focuses on diversity management and immigrant integration primarily in education but also in related areas such as the labour market; national and supranational migration and education policies, cultural diversity and social cohesion in Europe and North America; issues of citizenship, ethnicity and identity politics. Other research interests include European integration and comparative case study methodologies.

Dr. Faas is collaborator on the project ‘Citizenship Integration in Northwest European Migration Societies’, and has recently been awarded a Fulbright-Schuman Fellowship for a stay at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also Research Associate at the Institute for International Integration Studies (IIIS) at Trinity College Dublin.

Daniel Faas is a Member of the British Educational Research Association (BERA), the European Educational Research Association (EERA), the European Sociological Association (ESA), the International Sociological Association, the European Education Policy Network (EEPN), and was an elected local Councillor of Unterreichenbach, Germany (2004-2009).

Daniel Faas is fluent in German (mother tongue) and English and has a good knowledge of French.
