Adjunct Professor Heikkilä Elli

Born 1959, Adjunct Professor, Ph.D. Elli Heikkilä is the Research Director of the Institute of Migration in Finland. Her licentiate thesis (1986) and dissertation (1989) have dealt with migration and regional development. Population ageing was the topic of the postdoctoral research. The latest national project has been Internationalization of population and labour force from the present to the future (ESF-project). She has taken part to the international projects like Differential Urbanization –project and many Migration and labour market –projects in the Nordic level. The recent international projects have been Global Regionalisation: Core-Peripheral Socio-Economic Trends/Europe analysis; Demographic Changes, Labour Migration and EU-enlargement – Relevance for the Nordic Regions; International Marriages in the Time of Globalization; and Working Together for Better Integration - Immigrants, Police and Social Work. She has been a co-organizer from Finland of the First Conference on Migration and Integration in the Baltic Sea Area, The Challenges of Immigration, Hamburg, Germany in 2002. She has been also the member of local organizing committee and scientific committee of the 43 rd Congress of the European Regional Science Association, which was held in Finland in 2003. She is the co-editor of the international Migration Letters -journal and the editor of Nordic countries and Baltic states for the International Journal of Environmental Creation. She was the winner of International Prize of Environmental Creation of 2006 and during the same year the Professor position was admitted for her by the Institute of Environmental Creation International onwards. She is Adjunct Professor to the University of Oulu and the University of Turku in Finland. She is supervising different type of examinations to the universities like dissertations in multi-scientific field of migration studies.
