Dr. Oguzhan Omer Demir
Oguzhan Omer Demir (1976) is an associate professor of sociology. Currently, he is the Director of Center for Migration Studies of the Global Policy and Strategy Institute. Dr. Demir has heavily been involved in EU harmonization process of Turkey between 1999 and 2003, and appointed as liaison officer in migration matters within the Turkish Ministry of Interior. Currently, he has been working with International Organization for Migration in several research projects. He has coordinated a joint research project with IOM on the identification processes of trafficking victims in Turkey. He has also been consulted by IOM on various projects such as "Reaching Out to Unaccompanied Minors (UAMs) and Promoting Delivery of Services in their Best Interest in Turkey", "Supporting Turkey’s Efforts to Develop a Strategy and National Action Plan on Irregular Migration," and "Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking."
He holds MA (2006) and PhD (2008) degrees from the School of Criminal Justice of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, USA. He has published several books and book chapters. His academic research interests include migration and security, irregular migration, forced migration, social inclusion-exclusion, asylum-seekers, and transnational crime.
