Frauke Kempka

Born i1977, M.A. (FU Berlin) and Dr. phil. (MLU Halle-Wittenberg) in Japanese Studies. Studying and working in Japan directed my professional interests towards comparative research of social conflicts related to immigration and integration processes of immigrants. In my Ph.D. thesis "Vertraute Fremde" (Intimate Strangers) (2011) I reconstructed 10 case stories of individuals dealing with immigration-related conflicts in one Japanese and one German city and analyzed them against the background of the highly different immigration laws, integration policies, discursive and demographic structures. My research interests include immigration and integration laws and policies in Japan and Germany, conflict-dealing and non-discrimination issues.
