• The immigration and border police officer with criminal inquiry competences checks the papers of the illegal migrants stopped by Romanian Border Police or returned by Hungarian Border Guards, for illegal border crossing or irregular staying in Hungary or into the EU. To identify the undocumented persons and to find out the real method to cross illegally the border is his duty. This border police officer prepares the papers for proved offenders (with false document, illegal border crossing and certain border infractions), to present them to prosecutor, depending on their action and according to the law. He fills in the documents for aliens who claim the asylum status at the border, and sends them to the National Office for Refugees (ONR).
